A few people have recently told me about the Seal Press call for women’s humor stories. I don’t think there is any copying going on. We didn’t copy their Unsavyy Traveler and I don’t think they are copying Sand in My Bra with their #2 book. But check out this title.

The Risks of Sunbathing Topless and Other Hilarious Stories from the Road: A Travelers’ Anthology

The part that suprised me was that they want stories that are 3,000-5,000 words in length. That’s a pretty long story to try and keep hilarious throughout. When I was reading submissions, I was immediately turned off by something that long. But I do remember one funny submission that was around 5,000 words which would probably work nicely for them. I’ll have to dig up her email and tell her about it.

Deadline: September 10th

Good luck!

  1. Hi Jen.

I just want to share how much I appreciate your site. I live in Berkeley, so I also like the bay area focus in some of your blogs. I lived abroad for 18 years (in Spain, India, Japan, and Venezuela) and am now focusing more time on writing about some of those experiences. I’ve had the good fortune of seeing most of my essays published, thus far. I recently submitted a piece to TT’s ‘A Womans Asia’ about my friendship with a Hindu girl in India when I was seven years old. I found your site as a link there.

Anyway, thanks for your tips and information. It’s fun to check out your blogs and create new assignments for myself.

I look forward to reading the next Sand in my Bra!

  2. Wow, Johanna. Thank you for the kind words. It’s great to hear that you’re getting published and that you’re finding some resources here. Good luck with the TT Asia story, and all your future submissions. And stay tuned for the Bay Area event dates for Whose Panties Are These? It would be nice to meet you in person.
