Just a quick note to say that the Amazon Connect program is working for me. I had my first random book buyer comment on my section. Thankfully, it was positive. Even though I’ve had two happy commentors, one of which was my friend, I still can’t help but wonder how many people are confused and annoyed at how their Amazon home page has changed.

They’re calling it a “Plog” – and I haven’t yet figured out if you can turn it off. Basically, each individual user’s Amazon home page changes and has personal content based on what they’ve bought in the past. I haven’t bought that many books on Amazon and the few that I have, the authors aren’t on the program, so I’m not getting messages everytime I go over there. The one thing I wish would be different on it is if I’d get an email telling me that someone has commented. I really don’t want to go over there every day to look.

Still, I think it’s wild. It gets me thinking about the indie bookstores that I love and how we can incorporate something similar with them. Maybe there are some indie loving tech gurus out there already working on it. If there are, let me know. Popping into town once a year to show some support isn’t enough.

  1. Well, Jen, I hope Amazon Connect works for me, too. I just wrote my first novel, Domestic Relations, and while those who’ve read it (mostly people on my block) seem to like it, I would love to get a broader audience. And, maybe it does work, because your travel books look pretty damn funny to me.

  2. Jen,

My wife got me hooked on your books, and I have to admit it, I’ve enjoyed them.

One thing I love about indie bookstores is the recommendations from the staff. I’ve discovered many wonderful books, because someone took the time to write a 1 paragraph blurb telling me why they liked it. Since I now seem to seeing you on my PLOG, I’d like to ask you to recommend other books and authors that you’ve read and liked. I’ll be interested to see how your recommendations compare with Amazon’s own.

  3. Hi Jen, Having read a couple of your books, I was surprised when your plog jumped out at me when I went on Amazon. I also thought it was great and immediatly went to connect to add a plog for my travel books. Keep up the good work. Hope to see you on the road.
