More “Call for Papers” have come in. Since I am not from the academic world, can someone please explain this to me? Are they looking for some kind of dissertation on their topic, or are they looking for applications from faculty members to audition to participate in their conference?

CFP: International Society for Travel Writing (6/1/04; 10/21/04-10/24/04)

“Proposals for panels and 20-minute papers are sought from scholars working in all areas of travel writing, including literary studies, history, sociology, anthropology, indigenous studies, political science, American studies, environmental studies, and media studies. ISTW is an interdisciplinary group whose members study all aspects of traveling, tourism, and the journey. Papers are sought on topics addressing the literature of travel, exploration, discovery, and adventure from the ancient period to the present, as well as written and visual travel documents such as guidebooks, postcards, and photographs.”

Submissions are closed, but doesn’t it sound like those would be great papers to read, (or listen to?).

And thanks to Rebecca, here’s a Call for Papers on Travel and Disability from H-Travel: A Discussion List for the History of Travel and Tourism

its like this – a call for papers is really an open invitation to attend a conference or congress. It normally implies you will submit a report and then stand up for 20 mins and discuss it – so a call for papers pertaining to Ink jet printing would attract anyone working in that field…believe me, and I have done this all around the globe, its as dull as it seems…

one or two eminent profs – who want to be there as a penis extension is too much

lots of companies trying to steal academics ideas

and a lot of students who dont want to be there and end up getting smashed..

    Avoid!!

  2. Philip, thanks for the explanation. Since I haven’t been to one yet, it still sounds interesting to me. But yes, I can imagine that if you’ve been to heaps of these, you’d get tired of hearing the same ole, same ole.
