WOW. Huge thanks, Distant Lands!

Sand in My Bra was just named 2003 Book of the Year from Distant Lands in Pasadena.

This came as quite a surprise. I had just said hello to Adrian, one of the Distant Lands owners at the ITSA Party in Chicago and he hadn’t mentioned it. I don’t know who wrote the newsletter, Louanne? Angel? — but this is something to share and the contributors ought to be proud of their work. Same with the hardworkers at Travelers’ Tales and Publishers Group West who continue to promote the book even after the first four months have passed.

“Bestsellers are a rare thing among travel books. The kind of book that seems to be on everyone’s “must-read” list, or that appeals to a truly broad spectrum of readers, just doesn’t happen very often in the travel genre. So when a book comes along that we literally can’t keep in stock, we take notice.
Last year, that book was Sand in My Bra & Other Misadventures: Funny Women Write From the Road. Featuring stories by women both unknown and renowned, this hilarious anthology of trips that didn’t quite turn out as planned had hundreds of readers chortling, hooting, guffawing, groaning in sympathy, and shaking their heads in disbelief.”

And one more thanks to DL who places us right at the check out counter. I’m sure that had something to do with it. Here are two past WR entries from when we took the tour down there:
