Thanks to David Farley for bringing another spring travel writing workshop to our attention. Here’s the scoop on this upcoming class, which begins soon:

Gotham Writers’ Workshop: Intro to Travel Writing with David Farley

Dates: Begins Monday April 11 (ten-week class), 7 – 10pm

Location: West Village, NYC

Cost: $445 ($395 for returning students) There is a registration fee of $25. Each class is limited to 14 students, ages 18 and up.

Instructor: David Farley has written about travel for various publications, including Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Travel Savvy, BlackBook, Playboy, Chicago Tribune, The Dallas Morning News, Planet, and Time Out New York. He’s also been featured in The Best Travelers’ Tales 2004 and is currently editing Travelers’ Tales Prague.

Details: Using a balance of lecture, exercise, and feedback on work from the instructor and classmates, this 10-week workshop gives students a firm grounding in all the basics of travel writing. Everything is presented in a clear, accessible manner. Coursework will include:

  • Write one/two travel pieces or begin a book
  • Lectures on basics of travel writing craft
  • Writing exercises
  • Present work for critique

Travel I is for beginners or anyone who wants to brush up on the fundamentals.
