Moving to Madrid and trying to be an (English language) writer, do not go very well together. There only 2 decent local English language monthlies and any event/seminar/book release of any literary value is in Spanish.

So while I am language-locked in the Mediterranean, incase any of you are in California, Kansas, Texas, Florida or Oregon between now and September, you might want to rush to see if you can get a spot at one of the National Writers Workshops happening.

For as little as $50-$100, you could be part of a weekend with as many as 5000 journalists and writers across the USA.

Workshops will be given by award-winning/well-known journalists from around the country (from the likes of the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The San Francisco Chronicle, to name a few) and topics include writing tips, reporting skills, good storytelling, self-editing and broadcast journalism.

Details for each venue are different, all of which can be found here at Poynter Online.

Don’t miss things like this, especially when they might be easily accessible and so affordable.
