Bill Bryson, Paul Theroux, Calvin Trillin, Isabel Allende, Jennifer L. Leo in that order for spots 3-7 of the top bestselling travel literature books this past month!
What am I talking about? Sand in My Bra was #7 on a list of bestselling travel literature books as tallied by more than 400 independent bookstores over the past four weeks.
The BookSense Bestselling Category This Week: Travel Literature
Each month BookSense focuses on a different category of books to rate and this month was travel.
Now we have to find away to get on the main BookSense 76 list. That’s where books get front table exposure at all participating BookSense independent stores.
Big thanks to Ken Vollmer who found it and passed it on. Ken is interning with Travelers’ Tales to help with marketing for Sand. No doubt that over the coming months he’ll get a more intimate understanding of this side of publishing, and ideas on how he can better market his own book, The Wanderlust Survival Guide.
#7 is darn good and something to hold onto.
whoooooo!!! that’s pretty okee dokee!
i reckon your guerilla marketeering skills and willingness to spend some shoe leather introducing yourself to independent bookstores will have you rocketing to the top of the 76 any day now. Calvin T better watch his back, jack!
You will always be #1 in my book. And by the way, those are “gorilla” marketing skills.

This is great news 🙂 Now we just have to keep spreading the word and move you up to the Booksense 76 list. Go Jen! (And, by the way, Joe E. is kidding in his note(s), right? https://www.marketingterms.com/dictionary/guerilla_marketing)
Way to go Jen!This is great news. Now to figure out how to keep up the momentum. Maybe we can do a mailing to the indies in NoCal and SoCal about the appearance on booksense, and your recent booksignings. Keep up the good work – you’re doing awesome (even if Joe E calls you a gorilla!).
Actually, now that I think about that picture of you with the hyena, maybe “gorilla” is better 😉
