After reading about us in Paul McHugh’s article, They have pen, will travel,” in the Chronicle, Nancy Evans invited the Wild Writing Women down to Half Moon Bay to speak to the American Association of University Women.

And boy did we have fun! Cathy, Carla, Linda, Lauren and myself read from Stories of World Travel and followed up with a panel discusson on “Sharing the Joys of Travel.” Cathy talked about her new book The Birdhouse Chronicles, Linda talked about teaching travel writing to her students, Lauren talked about finding your voice as a writer, Carla talked about increasing your publishing opportunities by specializing on a unique topic, and I talked about how I got my job with Travelers’ Tales.

The crowd of 50 women were asking great questions, buying our books, and laughing up a good time at the Canada Cove Recereation Center.

One woman was particularly inspired by Carla and said that she wanted to learn to ride a motorcycle for her 50th birthday. Another woman came up to us and said that she and four others had decided to form a writers group of their own. There was a liveliness in this group that felt different than the bookstore readings we’ve done. Let me tell you, inspiring others to follow their dreams could get addictive. Good luck AAUW!
