Hey, I just wanted to let you know that we’re just wrapping up the final table of contents for The Thong Also Rises. I don’t think contracts or rejections will go out before the first two weeks of June. Please hang tight.
It’s a great book, in fact I think Thong might be the best yet. The big names that we’re going to seek permission for are Susan Orlean, Laurie Notaro, Jill Connor Browne, Sarah Vowell, and Ayun Halliday.
For those who’ve asked, no, I don’t have a story in this collection. It just didn’t work out this time. Next up is obtaining all the permissions, getting a final cover, and making sure it’s off to the printer and back in time for the Book Passage Travel Writers and Photographers Conference in August. It will be VERY tight, and if all goes well will be on bookstore shelves at the end of August/beginning of September.
I’ll start working on booking the tour, and if I come to a town with previous Sand or Panties contributors, you can be sure they’ll be invited to read if I have space.
Thanks as always for all your support and efforts trying to get in the books. It’s really difficult to see people working so hard on their writing and not be able to include them in the mix.
Hey Jen — just wanted to mention Rick Steves will be profiled on 60 Minutes tomorrow [Wednesday May 24] on CBS. I saw an ad for it while watching Navy NCIS. The CBS site lists it: “Vicki Mabrey packs her bags and follows travel sensation Rick Steves through Europe, collecting his travel secrets and advice along the way.” Should be cool to watch. 😉
