Wow. Another indie store closes. I wonder if there is a clock somewhere that tells us how many independently owned stores close in a single day—from all types retail—not just books. I found Women in Print, a feminist bookstore in Vancouver, a few years ago when I did a Google search on Sand in My Bra. They had reviewed it as a Staff Pick in a newsletter. From then on I had them on my radar and just now I was looking them up to suggest an author event this time around on my Thong tour. But now they’re closing next month.

So, I’m sorry, WIP. I didn’t really know you, but had wanted to. Best of luck to Louise Hager and Carol Dale in the upcoming chapters in their lives.

Here’s a bit about their history and the closing….

When WOMEN IN PRINT opened in 1993 women’s presses/publishers and bookstores across North America were still active, vibrant, and relevant. Our space has been used as a resource centre, providing information about women’s events and services, most of which we have also supported through advertising, gift certificates, and donations. In the past twelve years, WOMEN IN PRINT has hosted over 500 book events and author readings, on-site and in the community.
