Award-winning travel writer and editor Don George has just begun editing a new monthly online trave-lit-zine called ¨RECCE: Literary Journeys for the Discerning Traveler.”

Sponsored by travel adventure company Geographic Expeditions, RECCE – short for reconnoiter or reconnaissance – aims to take the spirit of exploration to another level, through a wide variety of original literary and photographic content.

Its first issue includes an article by Pico Iyer; reflections on Australia by author Jan Morris; a photo portfolio of Patagonia by David Samuel Robbins; and excerpts by Sir Edmund Hillary, Peter Hillary, and Ian Baker from the new book “Himalaya.”

Regular content will include of this e-zine will include:
Illuminations: from editor George’s own on-the-road lessons from 25 years of travel
Soundings: will offer in-depth interviews with some of the planet’s most articulate and provocative adventurers and experts
Roundtable: will present original commentaries from celebrated writers
Brilliant Books: will feature excerpts from the best new travel literature
Fresh from the Field: will showcase a portfolio of freshly photographed images from a distinguished photographer, taken on his or her most recent journey.

It also has an interesting ´Resources´ section, with tips and advice on topics to do with adventure travel.

  1. I was waiting for the “next big thing” from Don. This sounds like a great project.

    Here’s hoping he manages to get his hands on a few more travel anthologies. The ones he did for Lonely Planet were fantastic — great reads, and a great outlets for travel writers to showcase interesting work which might not have fit in other outlets. Good luck, Don!
