Hey all you Anne Lamott fans….she’s blogging! She’s writing for TPM Cafe: Politics, Ideas, and Lots of Caffeine. So far her posts have been coming in roughly once a week. Would you believe she feels out of place? Here’s an excerpt from her first post.

“I was so honored when Josh asked me to be part of the TPM Cafe, but have been trying ever since to get him to toss me overboard. Believe me, I do not fit in at all: I am a Christian, which if you ask me, is right up there with people who believe in pyramid power. Also, I have little college education or ability to frame political arguments in ways that might be useful or galvanizing; and furthermore, menopause has not helped my clarity and focus as much as I had been hoping. However, I do feel passionately about a couple of things right now, so I’ll just share those things. “

Note that her writing does have a strong focus on Christianity, and so far she’s kept with the theme of the cafe in talking about politics. For those of us who like hearing about her personal life and her writing life will get a treat soon I’m sure. I’m looking forward to reading this.

  1. I am a huge fan of Anne Lamott, it started when I was pregnant and someone turned me on to her Operating Instructions. I laughed so hard at the sincerity of the book that I think that I wet myself, which is not hard to do when you are pregnant with twins. I have had an addiction to her ever since. I have been desperately trying to find a way to see if she still gives lectures, writing workshops etc. I am a new writer and would love to get feedback from her if possible. If anyone has ideas please emil me at cicily@ryanjanus.com
Thanks, If anyone also would like to get a snipet of my first book in order to give me real feedback from an unbiased perspective, I would be forever indebted to you. I am almost to the close of the “shitty first draft” as Anne would say and I need opinions besides my husband before I send it out to thousands of editors/agents/publishers.

Feel Free to email me anytime.
Anne Lamott If you read this please email me a schedule of your lectures. Thanks

  2. Anne Lamott is my favorite author. Her books are the ones that I pick out too read myself to sleep at night…even though I may have read that particular book a gazillion times already! I admire her commitment to her sobriety, God and son, and I am grateful for her ability to make me laugh out loud with her self-depreciating wit and sarcasm! If only ALL born-again Christians kept it real like Anne does. She has convinced me that she truly does have a relationship with her God.

  3. I am looking for a local writer to act as a mentor and be interviewed by my 8th grade daughter who is doing a year long project for school. Anne Lamott was also instumental to me when I was pregnant and single with her 13 years ago! Anybody know how to contact her or if any other local writers would be available for a young person interested in writing to interview?
    Thanks all-

  4. I was lucky enough to stumble upon Anne Lamott’s work through a friend. That friend gave me “Bird by Bird,” to inspire and encourage me with my writing. I’m new to writing and have already experienced some ups and downs. It was such a breath of fresh air to read Anne’s work and see that I am right were I should be, and where I will continue to be for the rest of my life…Writing. Her wit, humor and grace inspired me at a very low point and I will continue to read and enjoy her work. Right now I’m putting a call out to the universe to find a writing group or a mentor. I believe it will happen. I felt compelled to say something to Anne even though she will probably never read this. Thank you Anne, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. God bless you, you’re a sweet soul.

    Sincerely r.Pia

  5. I just read Anne Lamott’s GRACE (EVENTUALLY) while on a flight. It was the first time I did not say continual “Hail Marys” while in the air…in fact, I think this was the first time I have ever laughed out loud while on an airplane. (Of course I did not laugh during the “The Born” chapter, but I am pro-choice and do not judge abortions or the women who choose them. I just leave that to God and the woman.)
