Last Minute Leo drove over to the business card print shop last night and found out that they were closed all weekend. So, who could I turn to in a hurry? FedEx Kinkos could have it done in time. BUT….the last biz cards I received from Kinko’s were tremendously thin, had awful print, and I am usually too embarrassed to use them.

With all the events next week, the rush is on. And I needed something that would cover a wider scope of services as well as accommodating my itinerant lifestyle.

This morning I found Overnight Prints. I just completed an order for 250 2-sided color cards with rounded edges and two day delivery. Guess how much? $65 including tax and shipping. And they talk a good game about having decent paper. I went on the FedExKinkos website next to see how much it would’ve cost me, but I was unable to go through the process online. So, I picked up the phone and they wanted to charge me $94.34 (I didn’t even ask if that included tases), and I’d have to do all the set up so they could just print a page. I asked about getting a paper upgrade and they said it’s just card stock. That’s all they can do. No rounded corners, either.

I can’t wait to see now Overnight does. At $14.95 for 100 single sided, I just might have to get some fun ones that say Starlet, or Adventure Enthusiast, or Available. I bet we could come up with something really entertaining!

  1. If for any reason the cards don’t live up to your standards, ExpressCopy.com does a great job for the (very low) price. I think I got my set of 500, double-sided matte (1 side full color, 1 side b+w) for about $45, with free shipping (1-2 business days).

They were sturdier than I expected, and the color/type was just about perfect.

  2. vistaprint.com puts out a decent product. I’d been spammed by them with low priced ads, but a friend of mine uses them, and they’re pretty good. You can get free cards if you get the ones with their logo on the back, or you can get “real” cards for a nominal fee. I think the promo now is 250 cards (no Vista Print logo on back) for about $10, with a nominal glossy charge if you choose. Shipping will cost extra, but not much, esp. if you go for the slow shipping. They have several stock logos and backgrounds, some of which I found a little cheesy. You can customize logos, add your own, etc., but then that starts to get pricey. Anyway, worth a look. Just don’t fall for the “Only 3 days left!” offers, since the same (or better) offers come around all the time.

  3. They would’ve turned out ok if there wasn’t this weird streak going across the length of the card on every card.

The design was good, the thickness and rounded edges were superb, but that streak. I might call them and ask if they can be redone.

  4. Overnight Prints scares me – because they won’t publish shipping rates on their website, and I just spent over 20 minutes on hold with customer service, only to be told they can’t give me any idea of what shipping will run. And then I read that your prints showed up with a streak running across them??? Hmmm… I think I’ll go elsewhere. Did they end up reprinting pro bono at least?

  5. I’ve used many many online print services and I can tell you overnightprints.com is HANDS DOWN the very best out there for the price. You will be hard pressed to find anyone that has the thickness and quality of business card that they do for under $1 each. YES, THEY DO ONLY CHARGE $14.99 FOR 100!!! I seriously don’t know how they make any money. That talk about the shipping rates…create an account, upload your card, type in your zip and it gives you the shipping rate immediately. And guess what…shipping is CHEAP. I just ordered 2 day FedEX and it was only $14 for 100 cards.

  6. They are 100% full of crap. Their customer service couldn’t be any worse. They probably print a nice LOOKING card, but their business is utter crap. They are liars and do not uphold the promises laid out in their OWN company policy (which is available for everyone online!)

IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE ME CHECK OUT THE “F” THEY HAVE WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU (https://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business/CompanyReportPage_Expository.aspx?CompanyID=13184602)

Sorry, I’m raging pissed, I hope they go bankrupt (and that I get my 4,000 cards that were supposed to be here today, but will only be here next week). It usually takes a solid 45-90 minutes to speak to someone there, none of whom KNOW ANYTHING. Every single person that I’ve spoken to there, upon hearing my question, puts me on hold and comes back a few minutes later saying something along the lines of “hmm.. that’s interesting. Sorry, can’t help you.”

They may print a decent card, but if you also need timeliness, you’re better of taking your business elsewhere.

  7. Alejandro,

My name is Danny, I’m in the PR/Marketing department with OvernightPrints and your post concerns me. I would personally like to know more information about the trouble you had dealing with our customer service department. We are currently increasing our training our CS staff, but what you seem to have endured is unacceptable, and I would like to do anything that I can to ensure that our No Risk Guarantee is upheld. I would greatly appreciate it if you could email me at marketing@overnightprints.com at your convenience.

    Thank You

  8. So how did the cards turn out, and Alejandro from OvernightPrints resolve the problem?

I’m thinking about buying cards from them, and would like to know how this has all turned out.

  9. I’ve used Overnight prints many times over the past 2 years, and I have to say that their quality has always been really good, and I’ve never had a customer service problem – they’ve always delivered ontime and with as-promised quality.

  10. I’ll never use ONP again.
I am a part of a very small “parent pack” and this weekend they ned fillers for a bag they are giving out at a farmers market. It’s not much for traffic and I doubt many of the peopel there are in my target market (more older people) but i didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to atleast get my name out there. I threw together and VERY simple design and sent it to ONP for printing Last week.

    Here’s the design:
    https://static.flickr.com/62/208228598_42f8886ada.jpg

I was pleased with it and, like i said, i just wanted something simple.

I submitted my order early last week and then got word that it would be shipped and delivered on monday. Monday comes and they get here, I’m all excited to open them. I look at the one taped to the front and am VERY pleased with how they look.
I open the box and am shocked at the many variations of BAD these cards look.

Here’s a quick scan of just FOUR of the different variations in the ONE box:
    https://static.flickr.com/95/215406971_5a7cc2f542.jpg

So needless to say, I email them monday around 2pm. No word come tuesday morning. I resend the email at 8am (with a note attached saying that I *NEED* these for this weekend and I’ll continue to resend this email until i get word back that they are being reprinted). NO word by 2pm and I couldn’t call before then b/c my son was being a terror. so when my hubby gets home, I call. I’m on home for 30 minutes. A pita, but i wasn’t shocked.
I talk to Robert. Robert is nice enough, explains that sometimes black and white images are difficult to match. I said ‘that i can understand, but these are RED. like RED RED.” he doesn’t seem to believe me. I explain how out of 100 cards only about 6 or 7 are correct and the rest are so bad i’d NEVER give them out with my business name on them (can ya blame me?). Robert seems very nice and proceeds to explain that it could be whats called a “powder bomb” if it’s in the same spot. I explain that it isn’t in the same spot… on ANY card. no two are alike. it’s unlike anything i’ve ever seen. again, he acts like i’m a raving lunatic. he says he’ll put them in for printing today and they will ship within 3-4 days. (mind you, I made a point to say ‘ i really need these for this weekend’ about 16 times at this point).
I’ve been VERY calm up until now which really isn’t typical of Me.
    Finally i get frustrated.
I say “Now, here’s the problem with that. I’ve told you time and again that i need them by saturday. Had you guys printed them correctly the first time or Even CAUGHT the error before shipping, I would have had them in time, so how are we going to rectify this situation?” (not too much to ask, i dont’ think)
He says “well, you migth have them by saturday”. I said “might isn’t good enough. I run a business. I NEED them for saturday. How are you going to make this happen?”
In a long run of events he offers me 3 days epxress which “may get them here by saturday or maybe monday”.
I’m displeased. I let him know that.
I say “you know, if you can’t even get me my merchandise here in a timely manner, then lets jst cancel my order.” he says “we can do that. it’s up to you”
    ooooooh, no.
I say “no, actually, it isn’t up to me. It’s up to you. I’m a customer of yours who orders business cards through you for THREE businesses (a local mothers group that i run, my photography business, and a side photo jewelry business) and you aren’t even willing to cough up the express shipping to get my order to me on time in order to save a relationship with a customer? See, THAT’S when i start to think it’s up to YOU since you’re CHOOSING to not help me out here”
he says “lets go ahead and cancel your order”
oooh, okay. that’s a FABULOUS way to keep a customer. GR.
I say “okay, that sounds great. I’ll just take my business elsewhere.”
I’m livid, but very calm and matter of fact. My husband was scared. I could see it in his eyes
He hacks away on his computer for 4 minute then says “you know, let me see what i can do here”.
    Good thinkin’ buddy.
He puts me on hold for 13 more minutes (I’m watching the counter on my cellphone so if i need to I can complain about how long i’ve been on the phone to resolve this, LOL) then comes back and says “we will print them in california and ship them out ground and they will be there by saturday.”
I say “and if they dont’ get here by saturday, should i just ‘return to sender’ then?”
he says “you could do that”
    “fabulous.”

will they probably be here by saturday? yeah, probably
was i pleased wtih the way it was handled? absolutely not.
COULD they have gone above and beyond and shipped them out next day air just to easy my mind and keep a customer? Most certainly.

So basically, I had crappy service. I hope you don’t and I’ll now be going elsewhere with my printing needs.

  11. Hi,

As a graphic artist I find it alarming that artists and printers who pride themselves on doing quality work, and consider what they do a real craft have to compete with places like this. Not to mention people who have all the computer programs and feel that instantly makes them graphic artists. It’s just another version of the big box syndrome — small businesses and quality products being squeezed out by the Targets, Walmarts and Vistas.

  12. On August 20, I placed an order for business cards, letterhead, and envelopes. The business cards arrived on August 28. On August 29, I sent an email asking about the letterhead and envelopes. They responded that I’d receive my order within 5 days. After not receiving the shipment, I sent another email on September 6 asking about the letterhead and envelopes. I received an email assuring me that the rest of my shipment would arrive the following day. The following day, only the envelopes arrived. On September 7 I sent another email asking about the letterhead. I got no response. On September 8 I called the customer service number. After being on hold nearly 45 minutes, I spoke to someone who told me the letterhead was nowhere to be found…apparently lost. After denying their offer to print them now–19 days after I placed the order–I requested a refund. That’s handled by another department and they are supposed to call me on Monday. I’m not optimistic. AVOID OVERNIGHT PRINTS!

  13. I am a professional photographer. I have a friend who is also and he recommended OverNightPrints. His postcards looked great.

I ordered business cards and postcards. They have just sent me the THIRD PRINTING and BOTH items are STILL WRONG.

The FIRST printing – business cards had a “hickey”, a spot of red in the white text on black, every card had it. The post cards were milky white under the glossy cover, AND the gloss came off in flakes after running my nail over it, even gently.

“WE have some new people working on the presses that we are trying to get to do a better job. Someone will talk to them about it, we know what the problem is, it’s something with the way they put the gloss coating on. It’s not a problem, we will print them again for you.”
They reprinted them at no charge, took about 2 weeks to get them. I did need them sooner, but…what could I do?

The SECOND printing – the business cards were cut crooked, easily visible to my eye. “That happens, we have no control over that, don’t put borders on your cards. We run hundreds of cards an hour and you get what you get. That’s why if it’s wrong we just re-print them for you without argument. You kind of take your chances.”
The postcards were better, but still milky.
I asked what happens if they come back a third time and they are not right. “You send in all the cards (around 30 pounds plus now) and pay for the return shipping. Then we reimburse you for the shipping and refund your money. If we can’t make you happy by the third time, we just can’t print them for you.” Even if they are wrong all 3 times and I send you a sample from each shipment and show you how? “Yes, we can’t control the quality of the printing, color, glossy coating, cutting straight, etc. That is just policy.”

The THIRD printing – just got them. The postacrds are all brown hued. I mean, a white house, is BROWN. White chair, white dress, all brown. All the faces, have a brownish yellow hue to them. The business cards are cut wrong again. This time they are shifted to one side BADLY. I would have to be an idiot to hand these to someone to represent my business, why did they do it? They don’t care, I think. They are doing so much volume, over the internet, that enough people don’t bother them for them to still make a profit. Not many people with bother to ship products back, or wait everytime for 30 minutes for customer service.
I see Overnight Danny doing a lot of Public Relations work on ALL the complaint boards about his company, but the company still runs as badly as it did several years ago. “We are doing a lot better, and a lot of the old complaints online have stopped. Except for some, of course, we can’t make everyone happy.”
They have freely admitted that their printing is hit or miss, and that the products they sent me are terrible quality.
I have recommended them to people, NO longer. I have heard VistaPrint is good from a lot of people, but who knows. I went to these guys after seeing a great postcard, and their cheap prices, but damn, you get what you pay for and these guys are total f**ing idiots and a waste of my time.
OVERNIGHT DANNY if you would like to DO something about this, I will email you right now Oct 9, 2006 at 12:10 pm and repost when you have printed my products correctly, not even perfect, just right!

  14. Worst vendor I’ve dealt with in 18 yrs of print Buying!

    here’s my story:

Ordered 1000 oversized postcards. received 500 on time, about 100 were damaged by them. They folded them to fit into a very small box – worse packaging I’ve seen in 18 yrs. Waited another week to get the balance of my order but only received 200 and those were supposed to be for replacing the damaged cards. Still waiting to receive the rest of my order, 500 cards.

Oh, they filed a claim with UPS so they could be compensated for damaged and lost product. UPS delivered the package exactly as they sent it!

If you are a graphic artist sending client work to these clowns, it’s only a matter of time before the screw up. That’s about the only thing you can count on from them.
    Stay away fro this vendor!

  15. I wished I had found this thread before I ordered my business card with overnightprints. It all sound so familiar! My first print was bad, with spots and wrong color. They printed it again and the cards are still spotty and the color is still wrong. I want to refund but was told I can’t talk to anyone but an answering machine. So I left a message. Very frustrated! Will NEVER EVER use overnightprints, and will not ever recommend it to anyone.

  16. Unbelievable! Stay Far Away! My credit card was charged twice for the same order. Apparently thats my problem as after a half dozen calls and over a month no manager got involved and their rep said is was noted in the database and they will look into it. I want my money back not notes in a database.

Did some research and overnight prints rents space on Go Daddy for their web site. They have 2 print shops in California and Kentucky which for some reason they don\’t want to admit – very odd.

    I hopes this helps someone.

  17. I use PAWS Print because they use high quality paper and they’re real business cards. You have to watch out for those companies that sell business cards that are under the standard 3.5 x 2 ” sizes. They also use digital presses which you could do in your own home with a decent printer. Try https://www.lakeland-printing.com . If you call them, they will actually anser the phone.

  18. You guys should try http://www.printprintprint.biz. Theire prices ARE WAY BETTER than other online printers and their quality is better as well. They have the same prices for shipping throughout the continental US and their prices for their products as well as their shipping prices are all on their home page. That makes it very easy to price out an entire printing job.

They also have a wholesale/resale program at http://www.printprintprint.biz/wholesale where you get an additional 10% off.

    I give http://www.printprintprint.biz 10 stars!
