I felt very productive this weekend but at a loss for words which I don’t want to call writer’s block. I have a few book assignments and another newspaper article in my head that I can’t seem to make any headway with. My new writers group thinks that maybe I’m not supposed to be a writer. That maybe my calling is to be an agent instead.

Maybe I’ve got the publicist’s curse. Isn’t there a saying that says PR people are wanna be writers, and if they try to do both, they can’t? I don’t remember where I heard that, but it is true that my people skills exceed my literary ones.

Well, I’m not giving up yet, that’s for damn sure. The Oregon studio is a good excercise for me. I am writing every day now, and I’m learning discipline through other means (cooking, working out) and I hope that they will build strength for my writing discipline. The blue jay outside my window nods with encouragement.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because maybe you go through the same thing sometimes. And I just want to tell you that it doesn’t matter where someone’s name gets printed on a page, or which book cover…I think we all go through it. Don’t give up — never give up on something you love. If you think you’ve got writer’s block, read the previous blog Overcoming Writer’s Block. I think I’ll give it another read too.
