I’m in Seattle…We’ve just had three successful events in the Pacific Northwest for The Thong Also Rises. Susan is here with me now, and being a Grade A pamperer. We originally intended to take a few days off near the end of the tour to relax together, but that’s still a challenge when there’s 5am radio interviews and pending deadlines. Don’t think we aren’t doing a bang up job of shopping and taking a turn at the fine dining wheel, though. Or at least we will once we leave the highly recommended Inn at the Market.

So, what are stickies? Well, there are several items that cross my desk. Each might deserve their own post on Written Road, but with busy days being busy days, they just end up as stickie reminders. So, here are some of the stickies.

The New York Times Recommends Travel Books for the Holidays

NEIL GENZLINGER reviews the season’s travel books. Are we going through a dry spell? Travels With My Chicken: A Man And His Companion Take To The Road, was the only title that caught my attention. Other books mentioned included:
The Devil’s Picnic
The Vinegar Of Spilamberto
Nicholas: The Epic Journey From Saint to Santa Claus
The Best American Travel Writing 2005, among others.
Actually, Rowing To Alaska: And Other True Stories published by Granta, also caught my eye.
(Thanks, Michael!)

The Kansas City Star picks 100 Noteworthy Books of 2005
And The Thong Also Rises was named one of them! The blurb was amusing. “A slight-looking paperback original actually offers fine travel misadventures from Susan Orlean, Laurie Notaro and others. Salacious cover, but remember, that’s not how we judge ’em.” The only other travel book mentioned was Here Is Where We Meet, by John Berger.
(Thanks, Anastasia!)

GoNOMAD is opening up a WiFi Cafe
I think this is a great idea and if every online travel community opened up a brick and mortar place to visit, that’d be awesome. BootsnAll has been opening their doors to travelers for several years now, so it’s just awesome that GoNomad is jumping on board, too. The GoNOMAD cafe will offer travelers hi speed internet access and laptops so they can check their email and such. This is part of a movement the GoNomad team is taking on to make their community entirely WiFi. I’d love to visit, but I have no plans to go to South Deerfield, MA.
