TravelClassics.com is hosting some travel writing conferences. They were smart and got Don George, which is the only reason this caught my eye. It’s interesting, they have a ton of sponsors, so I’m figuring lots of money. They’re having it at the Four Seasons….so why does their website look like crap? Becareful, not all their links work. Here is a working registration page.

When: November 17 – 20, 2005
Where: Scottsdale, AZ
Cost: $675
More info: Travel Classics West 2005 website, or look at their conference agenda.

Hey, if your beat is the Southwest, it looks like there could be some good networking for you. Ask if any sponsor reps will be there…that’s what I’m talking about.

Here are the magazine editors that will be there besides Don…

“Joining George in the mix of panels and one-on-one meetings are editors from AARP, Arizona Highways, Art & Antiques, Country Living, Distinction, Golf Connoisseur, Golf Living, Links, McMurry (publishers of Ritz-Carlton magazine), Robb Report, Shelter Interiors, Travel + Leisure, Travel + Leisure Golf and Via. Discussion topics will include “breaking in” to a new publication, “pitching arts and culture magazines,” “golf travel and the good life,” “luxury travel on a shoestring” and “travel and the Boomers.”

  1. Having attended the Travel Classics conferences for several years, I highly recommend them. Just 1 assignment from the top-notch slate of assigning editors pays the expense. The conferences sell out fast every time because of all the writer returnees who count on them for a year’s worth of assignments. Spring conferences is in Westchester County; Fall in Scottsdale.
