I like Joel Widzer, author of The Penny Pincher’s Passport to Luxury Travel. And I was thrilled to read on TravelersTales.com that he had found another outlet to share his travel tips. But when I went to go check it out, I was pretty disappointed. Not in Joel, in their marketing copy. Their “About Us” page.

Who am I talking about? TravelComment.com

Here’s what turned me off:

“Travelcomment is a collection of the sharpest travel commentary on the Web. In addition to featuring our own lineup of essayists, we also link to the most engaging, though-provoking and stimulating travel analysis on the Internet.”

Oh get over yourself, will you? Please.

But if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. Well…how about we change that to: If you say something mean, say something nice to balance it out.

I did enjoy James Wysong’s “Why Pilots Have to Shave”. Author of THE PLANE TRUTH: Shift Happens at 35,000 Feet, he is damn funny. Check out his recent post, “The Walks of Life”, a silly look at inner airport people movement. I signed up for the TravelComment newsletter and hope to read more from Wysong…and Joel.

As for travel news, I love getting mine from USAToday.com Travel, the Business Traveler Newsletter, and Forbes.com to name a few faves. And as soon as I’m renting again I’ll be getting a subscription to the Wall Street Journal.

    Heh. Though-provoking. That’s a unique spelling. I even checked the page on the site. Yep, there it is.

    Sorry. I’m in the middle of editing a manual of style, and these things are jumping out at me all over the place.
