If you didn’t find what you were looking for on the Summer Reading List, then give BiblioTravel a whirl — maybe you’ll discover the perfect book to take you away…
BiblioTravel was created by two librarians to provide a free online resource for identifying stories that are set in distinct locales. As of yesterday, it had 1,932 books and 1,679 locales listed in its’ database. Anyone who becomes a member (it’s free) can contribute additional book titles to the site.
Although not as comprehensive as say, Amazon’s Travel section (where you can search by country and drill down to city), I like the concept of this site. It organizes books differently — by location, but also by genre. So, if you’re in the mood to read something set in a particular place, this site can point you to fiction, romance, thriller, sci-fi or a childrens book set in the location of your choice.
This is not a database of travelogues, rather an arbitrary collection of memoirs, mysteries and historical novels, organized by setting. They only list 46 travelogues, but if you’re planning a trip to Venice, Israel or Egypt, (or unable to get away and want to daydream about your favorite getaway), this site offers an alternative way to find a good summer read.
Good site! I am glad they included the book by Chet Raymo, Climbing Brandon. “Science and Faith on Ireland’s Holy Mountain is the subtitle of this work by noted science author Raymo. He blends science, history, and faith in a refreshing and very readable book about Mount Brandon and the Dingle Peninsula, a promontory of Ireland’s western coast.”
