I've been invited to write something for the upcoming Travel issue of Hobart, a literary journal. I haven’t written fiction since I was in the 8th grade, but the editor was nice and keeping it real. Plus, I’m a sucker for words like “experimental” writing. This is the first time someone has ever used it on me, but it is just the kind of adventure that grabs me. It’s like they’re saying, give us something daring, edgy, and because it’s “experimental,” it doesn’t have to be perfect. That doesn’t mean it won’t have to be good, it just means that on the front end, it’s less stress. I’m so excited about this project.

They have their TOC (table of contents) about lined up, so I’m not posting it on Written Road as a submission call. But if you’re interested in fiction at all, I encourage you to check them out. Here are their submission guidelines. I could live in that trailer.

So, it being a request for experimental writing, I kinda want to write something steamy in tandem with Rolf, who was also invited to write for this issue. One story written in two chapters by two people. We’ll see what he says. We could get a little crazy, and that would be fun.

The other thing I thought of was to do a travel ode to one of my favorite movies, The Big Lebowski. It needs to be under 1500 words though, and I’d be torn as to what to cut, but we’ll see….

Here are their archives. This is the first one I wanted to read, and I really enjoyed it. “Soccer Dad” by Randall Brown.
