Michael Shapiro, the author of A Sense of Place: Great Travel Writers Talk About Their Craft, Lives and Inspiration, was recently interviewed on KPBS. You can listen to the 15 minute interview right on their website.
Michael is really putting out a great effort on the marketing front. He’s done heaps of events and just wrapped up the Southern California leg of his tour. Is he going to take a break? Maybe he’ll tell us what’s next for him in his literary journey.

Thanks for putting up the link, Jen, and yes I will be taking a break. Between the spring and fall tours I’ve done more than 30 events. The finale was a really cool event last Thursday with a singer/songwriter friend of mine.
All my bookstore events were at indie stores — I had three appearances with Pico Iyer, one with Arthur Frommer, one with Rick Steves and another with Brad Newsham. And the biggest thrill was the launch event panel with Tim Cahill, Isabel Allende, Jan Morris and Jeff Greenwald.
So eight of the 18 authors profiled in “A Sense of Place” helped me promote the book, quite a testament to their generosity. (And you could say nine authors helped because Simon Winchester gave me a contact at Book TV which broadcast the launch event nationally.)
Those joint events were the highlights of the tour. Another highlight was seeing old friends (and making new ones) in Portland, New York, Washington DC, Seattle, LA and San Diego. And last week an agent approached me in SoCal so maybe I’ll finally have some representation, though I really haven’t minded negotiating the contracts for my first couple of books.
